1. How do I know it's organic?
Because it carries the Soil Association symbol which means it has been produced under the strict standards laid down and policed by the Soil Association, and has a complete audit trail to source.
2. Why is organic food more expensive than conventionally produced food? The production of organic food is much more labour intensive. The yield per acre of crops is much less and because no chemical preservative are used the shelf life is shorter.
3. Why does organic honey come from abroad, surely bees are organic? Bees can travel up to nine miles for nectar and there is nowhere in thiscountry where an eighteen mile circle is chemical free!
4. Why does the organic fish come from St. Helena? The seas around all the major continents are polluted, and St. Helena is the only place with unpolluted seas. The fish are all "rod caught" so there is no unnecessary waste of "net-all" catches and only what you kept fishing.
5. My children have allergies to "E, no preservatives". How can organic food help? Organic food does not contain any chemical preservatives and may help these types of conditions. If you have a special diet advised by your dietician we will happily source items you may require.
6. I'm a vegetarian and you sell meat surely this cannot be an organic shop? "Organic" refers to the methods used to produce food both from fauna and flora, so organic meat can be produced alongside organic vegetables on the same farm. Indeed it is best practice to have both animals, fodder, cereal and horticultural crops on the same farm. |
